Life In Good Measure

It is about people, history and your own place on the map

Articles & Article Series

This page will show you all the existing article series in Journeys of Life. The list is in alphabetical order and will expand as time goes by. Clicking at a link will open up the initial page of that series. In this page are also listed all the miscellaneous articles of Journeys of Life. That list is updated any time another miscellaneous article is published. But you can access the articles of course in the front page by clicking there at Articles. Continue reading

The Continuity

This blog has been around for the past 10 years (under another name), and is going to be here in this digital world of ours not just for the next 10 but for years and years to come. So in case you are wondering whether there is any point of adding your relatives here - distant or near - ask yourself what guarantee we have of anything remaining intact for future generations to come. Continue reading

Canada's Political Map

Canada is a big country - the biggest in the world after Russia - and divided into many parts that might be nice to know more of for those of us who never visited this great country. So here below you see the provinces and territories - in both English and French - with their official two-letter abbreviations and also the capitals. These abbreviations will be used throughout the site. Continue reading

The Historical Context

As you may have noticed, history is a big part of Journeys of Life. Along with the birth dates in each individual year, you can usually see a short list of some of the historical events that took place that particular year. Usually with a picture associated with one of the events. The yearly facts are of course meant to give some background and flavor to the times that the people - and the parents of those born - were living in. Continue reading

The Links

And the absence of them. You may have noticed that links are richly used in Journeys of Life when it comes to the persons appearing in the Year Files. Those links invariably lead to the Wikipedia page telling more about the person in question. In case there is no Wiki page available, the links direct you elsewhere. And sometimes of course there just isn’t any link to provide. But contrary to Wikipedia’s ample linkage and what many of us are used to, links are used very sparingly in the introductory paragraphs to these year files. Continue reading

Your Ancestors

As a courtesy to our readers, Journeys of Life provides a service that might interest some of you. In addition to being able to list your own birth data here, you are allowed to add your ancestors as well. But as you present their name and birth data (as fully as possible), please tell us also their main profession or what they mainly were known for. Also you could give some of the historical background to shed some more light. Continue reading

U.S. State Two Letter Abbreviations

Many of us have trouble remembering which two letters stand for which U.S. states - which is a pity for it is a neat way of expressing them in writing. So here is a list of them for the readers of this site anyways - and you can copy them freely. The date after each state indicates when it became one - and more info of course to be found in the corresponding Wikipedia page. Continue reading

Updating & Refreshing

This being a blog - at least for now - there is typically a date stamp attached to each article. Hopefully no one is bothered about that too much for nothing in this blog remains the same for long. The blog is continually being updated and refreshed. New persons are added, new data is filled in to already existing files and there will also be new article series. Like at the moment the one that concentrates on singular people as a homage to them. Continue reading
