The words we didn’t say. How they haunt us sometimes. Maybe more than the words we did say. Even if those too might haunt us.
At some point of your life you may realize that - despite all the inherent intentions of verbalizing your thoughts, encouraging your loved ones to spread their wings and soar high, expressing your love towards them, being a dear aunt or uncle, showing how much you actually care - you actually haven’t done much any of that. Time has passed, and you may wonder if it’s all too late to express any of those fine, grand thoughts and intentions.
But the fact is too, that it’s never too late to start expressing yourself. It doesn’t take settling in new surroundings where noone knows you and has no preconceived ideas about you. You can in fact start expressing yourself right now and right here - even if it is harder of course, having to break barriers and changing people’s notions about you.
And you may want to be forgiving towards yourself, realising that noone is perfect and people do mellow, mature and become wiser as they get older. If what was good and okay a decade ago, but doesn’t feel that now, you are completely in your right to change your attitude and behavior.
So speak out, without remorse. Tell them all those things you have kept to yourself all these years. All those words you wanted to utter, but couldn’t for some reason.
An altogether different matter is the opinions you dared not express, but immediately afterward knew you should have. For example in the work place. Or when the going got tough and the tough got going, but you left yourself out of the equation for some reason. You missed the boat so to speak. The situation passed. But luckily there are always new opportunities to show what you are made of.
It’s a new day. Every day. Personally and professionally.
