Who Said That! #30

This time a little longer quotation, but one which describes so well its writer. Who might that be?

“There is a stubbornness about me that never can bear to be frightened at the will of others. My courage always rises at every attempt to intimidate me."

First of all, that is a masterful description of the star sign she was born under, Sagittarius. And the characteristics of which are seen in many of her novels. Giving power to the individual, no matter what position they were born into or happen to hold then or at any later time in life.

Too often we let others intimate us, or make us change our minds or shift our real objectives and get sidetracked into lesser objectives. And that might frustrate and even infuriate us, and really really bother later on any time something to do with the situation or the person rises up, and we get reminded of our own shortcomings.

To be bold, even with all the consequences we might suffer from being so, feels good, and at the very least leaves much nicer memories. That is part of the reason why we might gravitate towards hero worship, and choose movies where ordinary, seemingly ordinary or even weak individuals become something much more. Rise above their primary standing, show their inner strength - and in the case of sci-fi, perhaps their superior physical powers.

Me too. Black Lives Matter. Aboriginal Justice Agreements. Man develops hopefully into something more, something better. The responsibility for that lies with all of us.

But who is behind the above quotation?

Jane Austen. The English novelist whose plots often explore the dependence of (the 18th century) women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security.
