Who Said That! #21

WSTHugging This time in our series Who Said That! a quotation that rings true to many of us as most of us get to live a long life filled with opportunities - some grasped, some missed,  and some passed:

_“TWENTY YEARS FROM NOW _

YOU WILL BE MORE DISAPPOINTED

BY THE THINGS THAT YOU DIDN’T DO THAN

BY THE ONES YOU DID DO”

These things can be most anything. Encouraging your kids to be the best they can be. Telling your loved ones that you love them. Letting yourself try things just because you can. Giving yourself the time of your life. Doing the same for others. Laughing a bit more. Fixing those teeth so that you dare. Laughing anyway. Making others laugh, even at your own expense. Acting the clown, being the wise one. Applauding another’s success. Being happy for them. Speaking out. Helping out, and accepting help from others when it’s the wise thing to do. Letting them feel good about it. Offering to carry someone’s bag, even at the expense of getting a suspicious glance. Taking more photos. Throwing away the things that you don’t need anymore to make room for life. Daring to take that decisive step to attain an important goal or to embark on the Journey of your life. Letting love conquer all.

And from whom is that above quotation? The answer is:

Mark Twain, called the “greatest American humorist of his age.” We know he wrote the now classic novels, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, but he also left behind numerous humorous and philosophical quotes. Concerning the above one, he continues:

So throw off the bowlines.

Sail away from the safe harbor.

Catch the trade winds in your sails.

Explore.

Dream.

Discover.
