Who Said That! #18

WSTDoor This time in Who Said That! another quote to ponder upon. And if you want to try to guess or remember who said that, just remember to   s c r o l l  down very slowly so you won’t reveal it ahead of time!

“WHEN ONE DOOR OF HAPPINESS CLOSES,

ANOTHER OPENS_;_

BUT OFTEN WE LOOK SO LONG

AT THE CLOSED DOOR

THAT WE DO NOT SEE THE ONE

WHICH HAS BEEN OPENED FOR US”

A hint. This person could not see any physical closed doors as she was blind, but she saw opportunities where others did see just closed doors - mentally and physically. She broke barriers, created new paths for others who followed, and became the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.

You must know this by now. But think one second about how true this is. If we do dwell on the past, however recent or dramatic, we do miss on something in the present. And if we do hold on to something old, however dear and familiar, we may miss on something equally satisfying in the present.

And the person who said that was of course the American author, political activist and lecturer Helen Keller. She let bygones be bygones, and moved on, to become somebody that most of us identify as one very successful disabled person.
