If you ever dreamed of spending your golden years somewhere warm together with your best friends, then this is the sitcom to watch: The Golden Girls created by Susan Harris. Set in the sunshine state of Florida, this show is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon! Here of course we go through the cast that I’m fairly sure many of you remember. And although with the passing of Betty White in New Year’s Eve 2021 all of them have now passed away, luckily for us they can forever entertain us on the screen. 1922-0117 Betty White plays the silly Rose Nylund, a Norwegian American from the small farming town of St. Olaf, Minnesota. Her humorously peculiar stories of her growing up on the farm add their own nice flavor to the show. 1922-0513 Bea Arthur plays Dorothy Zbornak. She is that tall lady who seems to know something about everything. Well, she was a teacher before her retirement. And she - Dorothy that is -  still teaches some. 1923-0725 Estelle Getty plays Sophia Petrillo, Dorothy’s mother. Which always seems a bit funny since she is so short and Dorothy is so tall! Sophia is a tough Sicilian immigrant, so well portrayed by Getty who herself was from New York City. Also, she was younger than both White and Arthur, but after undergoing the three-hour transformation to make her look older, she became the sassy Sicilian! 1934-0221 Rue McClanahan plays Blanche Devereaux, a man-hungry Southern Belle from Atlanta, Georgia, born into a wealthy family, and the owner of the house in Miami these four ladies reside in. In the picture above from left to right: Blanche (Rue McClanahan), Dorothy (Bea Arthur), Rose (Betty White) and Sophia (Estelle Getty). The show premiered back in 1985. Here below you have a few interesting links relating to The Golden Girls. The first one is an hour+ long reunion video on youtube. And if you want your own reruns, you could get the Golden Girls complete series DVD bundle at ebay for example at a pretty affordable price. Not that I’m advertising ebay here, I just think that it’s a great thing that it is possible. Golden Girls - Reunion - Fox News Entertainment - Southern Living Updated 12.1.2022
