Life In Good Measure

It is about people, history and your own place on the map

Streets of Quito

This is part in the article series Streets and Squares that provide some background information on street signs around the world. It is a fun way to learn about the history and culture of the cities you visit or even live in!

This time we target Quito, the capital city of Equador, South America. There are quite a few eponymous streets – and squares in Quito. The word eponymous means – in case you didn’t know it already – (of a thing) “named after a particular person or group” or (of a person) “giving their name to something”. And - as always - clicking on the address will take you to Google Maps, and clicking on the name to Wikipedia.

Avenida Eloy Alfaro - Eloy Alfaro (1842-1912), often referred to as “The Old Warrior,” was a politician and two time president of Ecuador. Born in Montecristi, Ecuador - StreetView -

A to Z FROM QUITO
i.e. a list of people born in Quito. Just another fun way to know something more about the city. We pick a couple of people for each alphabet, if possible. The numbers you see at the end of each line indicate the year of birth. This list is updated from time to time. And last but not least: the flag, logo or coat of Quito!
