In this particular series of articles we present women who have had an impact on the world. Women who can stand as role models to us modern women no matter when they themselves were born. Because in their own time, they were ahead of their time. Or they simply rose above their gender.

Do you know by the way why the International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March? Well, it so happens that women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia that day in the year 1917, and although there have been other dates for commemorating the movement for women’s rights, in 1975 the United Nations adopted March 8th as International Women’s Day. So, it started as women’s suffrage i.e. the right to vote in elections, and goes on of course as campaigns for gender equality. But it is also an occasion for any of us to treat the women of our lives to a rose or something special as a token of appreciation and love. And also today when Mother’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world!
