Language Day #29

There are so many languages in the world! But some of us - actually quite a few - go through life without learning - or needing to learn - any other language except the one provided to us since infancy, our mother tongue.

Depending upon where you were born though, you may have been surrounded by other languages beyond your mother tongue to the extent that it has been only natural - or perhaps even necessary - to take up at least one of them. No matter what your circumstances were, or are now, it is always a good thing to know languages. Then of course, some of us yearn to be multilingual for it is just so much fun to be able to understand foreigners (or speakers of some other language in your own country), read foreign-language books, try to understand foreign movies without reading subtitles etc.

Here in Journeys of Life this article series for example exists solely because the editor is keen on languages, but it does go well with the title since people have their individual journeys of life anywhere and everywhere in the world.

This time in Language Day we don’t present any specific international stuff, but only ask you readers to become participants or collaborators of the topic.

So, what is your mother tongue? Could you think of filling up blanks in your own language where possible in the past and future postings of Language Day? If so, you can do it by commenting on the posts, or writing to jovestoneblog@gmail.com and tell us what you would like to see in these postings, how you could help with them, or whatever else comes in mind concerning Language Day. And as you may have seen already, the content of these postings can be about anything to do with languages.
