Let’s have this time around in Language Day a little play with words. Or rather, letters. Three single letters to be exact. The letters A, I and M.
See, you can start learning a language with very little, and go on from there. With as little as three letters.
Language learning is not just about learning by heart, or from example, or from practice. It is also about the light and humorous touch. The tasting of letters on your tongue and your mouth, the articulation of them with feeling. The fearless production of sounds, no matter how strange they sound to us at first. The speed preferably slowed down to a minimum for the mastery of articulation to take effect.
So here are three letters of the alphabet arranged as many ways as possible, in alphabetical order. Make as many sentences of them as you like, and ponder this: no language is without beauty.
Aim (English) denoting goal, intent, purpose, a weapon’s accuracy
Ami (French) for friend, and the English existential question am I?
I am (English) the existential verb for first person singularis, and in some spiritual writings the name for God.
Ima (Japanese 今) for now, also urban English for I’m a
Mai (Italian) for never, also a feminine name in many countries
Mia (international) a feminine name in many countries
Interesting (and probably just a funny coincidence) how the words Now and Never both appear in that list. Anyways, here below a few affirmations for those interested starting with “I am”, presented by the YouTube channel YouAreCreators:
