It is much harder to do that with say, a dog - no matter how much we love our pets - Let’s go on an imaginary journey of identification. We embark on it anywhere in the world, and the only common thing we all share on that journey is that it takes place on our home planet earth. Inertia could be seen as the other side of the coin where “the better side” has rest (add italics) printed on it. But whereas rest is a positive and necessary thing, really needed as a balancing ingredient between action, inertia is its negative counterpart, making it difficult to go back to action. It all comes down to tempo. Sometimes we are just too slow to get our ideas crossed, and others too fast to get theirs. Sometimes we suffer from a chronic illness that makes us unable to express ourselves in the manner or speed we would prefer. In such instances it may be particularly frustrating to “take part” in a conversation. By the time you finally remember what to say or have found the right words to what you want to say, the conversation may have proceeded too far from that point, and you end up saying nothing, thinking that others would not catch on your drift at all anymore. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/chicago-p-d/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 08:11:00 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/chicago-p-d/ The NBC police procedural drama series Chicago P.D. xxxxxxxxx 1959-0403 Amy Morton as Sergeant Trudy Platt - Oak Park, IL USA 1960-0312 Jason Beghe as sergeant Hank Voight – New York City, NY USA 1961-0311 Elias Koteas as Senior Detective Alvin Olinsky – Montreal, QC Canada 1963-1115 Kevin J. The movie is a coming of age story for four teenage boys, played by Wil Wheaton (as Gordie), River Phoenix (Chris), Jerry O’Connell (Vern) and Corey Feldman (Teddy). https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/little-house-on-the-prairie/ Tue, 16 Apr 2019 07:11:51 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/little-house-on-the-prairie/ [caption id=“attachment_9268” align=“alignright” width=“266”]Michael Landon in 1974[/caption] Little House on the Prairie. Who hasn’t seen this American western drama television series or at least heard about it? About The Ingalls Family living in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, based on the best-selling series of Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Anyway, true to the idea with Journeys of Life, celebrating people in the entertainment industry and anywhere else, here is the cast for the series, in chronological order like always: https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/striking-up-a-conversation/ Fri, 12 Apr 2019 08:11:45 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/striking-up-a-conversation/ Whether you are the gregarious type or more prone to privacy, there are moments in life when you may want to strike up a conversation with a total stranger. Be it at a bus stop, a bar or a street corner, the consequences of unexpected openers can be far-reaching for both parties - or a pleasant break from your usual routine. Loneliness is such a common thing among the older population (and yes, even the younger) that striking a conversation with a senior citizen at a bus stop is often a most welcome thing. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/walking-walking/ Sun, 07 Apr 2019 08:11:27 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/walking-walking/ We learn to walk around the age of one - and what a delight that is for both the parents and child! And from then on - unless something unforeseen happens - we walk our whole lives. The steps we take are uncountable. But let’s say that we take an average 3000 steps a day during 10 years. That would make close to 11 million steps. So in 80 years one might take around 88 million steps. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/magical-moments/ Sat, 30 Mar 2019 09:11:15 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/magical-moments/ Life is a pretty humdrum existence most of the time. With some ups and downs, along with long stretches when nothing extraordinary or interesting seems to be happening. But in most everybody’s life there are also special moments, some of which are almost magical. Can you recollect any magical moments in your own life? It doesn’t have to be anything seemingly special. But rather something that feels special. Like this one instant when a teenager is waiting at a bus stop on her way home from school. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/anybody-out-there/ Wed, 27 Mar 2019 07:45:34 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/anybody-out-there/ When you think about the ins and outs of things, don’t you think there should be something out there, in the universe, living more or less like we live here on Earth, circumstances withstanding? Let’s take this from start. Logically thinking, if you’re inside a box, and knowing what you know about the world (which is very limited for all of us), you would think that there is something outside the box as well. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ipcc/ Mon, 25 Mar 2019 09:55:37 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ipcc/ IPCC - the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - had it’s latest conference a couple of months ago in Katowice, Poland. Widely reported throughout the world, IPCC got a lot of attention. One of the speakers at the conference was Sir Richard Attenborough, whom most of us know from his splendid nature documentaries. He had an urgent message to give to the rest of the world. The organization is becoming increasingly familiar to most of us. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/government-1/ Mon, 18 Mar 2019 09:11:24 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/government-1/ Let’s have some fun - and points to ponder! Let’s explore the self from within on a “governmental platform”. Let’s assume that we are all governments onto ourselves - as we indeed are - and see what sort of roles we could be building within ourselves in order to make the most of our lives here on earth. So, let’s say that we have built-in ministers or agents for each purpose and opportunity in life. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/peter-paul-and-mary/ Sat, 16 Mar 2019 16:12:03 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/peter-paul-and-mary/ [caption id=“attachment_7121” align=“alignleft” width=“177”]Paul, Peter & Mary[/caption] Peter, Paul and Mary was a popular American folk group active between 1961 and 2009. For many of us pretty unknown or just a distant reminder of the past. But as you watch them perform - albeit seemingly old-fashioned in style and tempo - the emotions you sense there are really no different from any age we live in. If you are feeling stressed and in need to slow down a bit, watching these three singing will do the trick. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/women-in-ufc/ Fri, 08 Mar 2019 19:25:12 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/women-in-ufc/ On this Women’s Day, let’s have something specially for women. Some of you might ask what makes a woman want to fight professionally? And the minute you do, you already know the answer. Fighting is not just for men. We all have the need to assert ourselves, defend ourselves and even attack when need be. And some of us want to watch people fight, professionally that is. There is big business built around all that. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/born-in-hawaii/ Thu, 07 Mar 2019 09:11:51 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/born-in-hawaii/ Let’s make a closer acquaintance with the Hawaiian islands, the chain of volcanic islands in the North Pacific Ocean. And then see who was born there throughout the years. First there was the Kingdom of Hawaii (1795-1898), then the Territory of Hawaii of the United States (1898-1959), and as of the 21st of August 1959, the State of Hawaii, the 50th and the most recent state of the United States. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/remember-when/ Sun, 17 Feb 2019 07:45:42 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/remember-when/ As we grow older, we all change in some major ways. Physically, naturally, comes to mind first. But there comes a whole package of psychological things as well. One of them being the eradication of some of the prejudices concerning old age. Here is one of them. Don’t we usually think that old people like to think of and talk about old times a lot? Well, many do and nothing wrong with that. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/a-platform-for-genealogy/ Mon, 11 Feb 2019 09:11:07 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/a-platform-for-genealogy/ If you hadn’t figured it out yet, this site is basically offering to be a platform for genealogy. The groundwork is gradually being done to become just that, so that people like yourself could attach some of their own data in these pages. The data or information is never anything that could harm you or the members of your family, whether living or dead, for all that is needed here is what you see being repeated in every single year file: name, place and date of birth, main occupation or what the person in question was mainly known for, and also the possible date of death. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/how-to-get-away-with-m/ Fri, 25 Jan 2019 07:55:09 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/how-to-get-away-with-m/ How many of you are following ABC’s prized television series How to Get Away with Murder? And how many of you have been left with the feeling of wanting for more the second you realize the episode you’re just been watching is ending, what with all those pretty awesome cliffhangers? It’s that good, and continues to hold us under its spell. So here is something for us fans, à la Journeys of Life: the cast of How to Get Away with Murder! https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ask-your-grandma/ Thu, 17 Jan 2019 09:11:05 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ask-your-grandma/ When we get older, we tend to appreciate old folks more. Not necessarily because we ourselves are getting older and can easier identify with them, no. But because they may not be there anymore to tell their stories, and we realize what we’ve missed. The missed opportunities to just having them around, and having them tell their stories. About themselves, about our parents, about our family history. Who else is gonna do that but they? https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/tomato-is-the-new-chocolate/ Wed, 02 Jan 2019 09:11:36 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/tomato-is-the-new-chocolate/ New Year’s resolutions, anyone? Traditionally, many of them have to do with losing some of those extra pounds and kilos accumulated in December - or many consecutive Decembers for that matter. I myself have every now and then thought of how to make it really really easy to eat healthy snacks instead of resorting to chocolate for that little bit of fast energy. Never mind if you just ate a ton of chocolate in December, the craving for chocolate can be a perennial threat to being fit for many of us. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/two-centuries-done/ Tue, 18 Dec 2018 09:11:23 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/two-centuries-done/ If you ever check the lists of birth dates here, you may have noticed that the 20th century has long since been completed. Now the same applies to the 19th century. So that makes a minimum 200 consecutive years that each have their own page with some background information and some appropriate picture attached, and of course the list of birth dates. These pages are being continually updated whenever some relevant information shows up. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/u-s-presidents/ Fri, 07 Dec 2018 06:20:59 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/u-s-presidents/ This is something that Americans are supposed to know by heart early on - the names of U.S. Presidents. And something that only a few master all their lives. Of course, there’s no need to do that either. There are things far more important to remember, and only so much space and time to contain all the information we are supposed to digest in this digital age of ours. But it does come handy when needing to answer who was the 33rd president of the United States in Who Wants to be A Millionaire! https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ancestor-day-1/ Fri, 23 Nov 2018 16:33:45 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/ancestor-day-1/ Yet another new series is emerging here in Journeys of Life: Ancestor Day. You do know that you can always add your ancestors here in the year files - providing harmless information concerning really nobody but you and your family, yet enriching this site at the same time? Now you also have an opportunity to write a little story of any of your ancestors. The length of these stories is something you decide yourself, as long as they remain tactful and historically as correct as possible. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/black-friday/ Thu, 22 Nov 2018 08:55:41 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/black-friday/ Last year I flew with my sons from Tampa, Florida to MacArthur Airport on Long Island in order to celebrate my birthday in New York City. The Jonestown massacre, organized by the leaders of The Peoples Temple of the Disciples of Christ, and more precisely, Jim Jones. It is intriguing to look for resemblances between members of the same family - their mannerisms, voices, gaits, and of course their looks. And between members of the same gender, it can be even more intriguing. So let’s go through some well-known sets of brothers here, from the year 1441 onward! https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/singles-day/ Sun, 11 Nov 2018 10:00:29 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/singles-day/ The contemporary people - especially those living in Asia - associate the term Singles' Day with bargain sales. It has in fact become the largest offline and online shopping day in the world, with Asians and Westerners alike spending billions of dollars on purchases from Alibaba and other online retail companies. Singles' Day already surpasses the purchases made on the more widely known Black Friday. But today especially we mean with Singles' Day rather the fact that it is 100 years today since the end of the First World War. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/masters-of-horror/ Wed, 31 Oct 2018 09:11:23 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/masters-of-horror/ It is Halloween today folks so this topic is hot! Some of us are fans, some of us would never choose to read a book of this genre or to watch a movie based on one. We talk about horror - which actually is a pretty wide genre. The more graphic it gets, the less likely it may be that one likes it, especially the really graphic ones. The more psychological it gets, the closer it gets to thrillers. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/united-nations-sgs/ Wed, 24 Oct 2018 08:11:42 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/united-nations-sgs/ Congratulations United Nations for turning 73 years today! A good day to go through here in Journeys of Life all the people who have hold the position of Secretary General of the United Nations. The first episode aired in the United States back in 2014, but it doesn’t get antiquated. Not with the way things keep going in the Middle East. The premise of this series is that Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed, a married pediatrician living in the United States, with son and daughter, is also the son of a Middle-Eastern tyrant. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/seeing-is-believing/ Sat, 06 Oct 2018 08:11:54 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/seeing-is-believing/ [caption id=“attachment_5672” align=“alignleft” width=“278”]Not three, but four monkeys[/caption] Incredible! It is nowhere near perfect, but attempts nevertheless to give the timeline of composers through ages. Some of these composers are perhaps better known as conductors, but they still composed their own music as well. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/veganism-here-to-stay/ Sun, 16 Sep 2018 11:31:33 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/veganism-here-to-stay/ If you do your own grocery shopping, you’ve probably seen a major change in shelf labels. More and more labels are about offering the vegan option. Which is a great thing for the world. Since we all know - or should know, in these enlightened times - what a wasteful and detrimental life man has been living as a carnivore considering what it does to the Earth. That old language isn’t of course an official language anywhere except perhaps in the Vatican State, and in the Catholic Church the use of Latin has greatly diminished since the old-style Latin Mass was phased out more than 40 years ago - in favor of local languages. Latin does remain the official language of the universal Church, but it is used mainly as the language of reference for translating major documents into modern languages. https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/who-said-that/ Fri, 01 Jun 2018 07:05:35 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/who-said-that/ This is an article series depicting what we people have uttered in a moment of elation, insight, inspiration, wisdom, despair - or any other emotion. Well, why not - everything that we have and use has first been thought of by someone, and then turned into a functional product. 15-year-old Chester Greenwood was ice skating one day in his hometown Farmington, Maine in the year 1873 when he had a thought of covering his ears with something warm and fluffy. It probably was a bit cold that day! https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/the-golden-girls/ Sat, 31 Mar 2018 10:38:14 +0000 https://lifeingoodmeasure.com/the-golden-girls/ If you ever dreamed of spending your golden years somewhere warm together with your best friends, then this is the sitcom to watch: The Golden Girls created by Susan Harris. Set in the sunshine state of Florida, this show is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon! Here of course we go through the cast that I’m fairly sure many of you remember.
